I think perhaps it was my favourite part of Dreiser's Trilogy of Desire for its more humane nature. Here, Cowperwood is older, still rich and successful - but it is now taking more efforts to keep up with the pace. He is in love again - but a different type of love now, perhaps less attached to the idea of ownership and trophy-hunting, but the one that truly opens the heart. Easy to read, I can easily see this being showcased in cinemas.
